Of course, Captain Solo likes to live life on the edge, so he took a shortcut through the Maw - flying close to the black holes and bending space and time, as explained in A.C. So, pilots navigating the Kessel Run would need to be cautious of their surroundings getting too close to the Maw could tear their ship apart. The problem is, Kessel is surrounded by a cluster of black holes called the Maw. ![]() In Legends, the Kessel Run is an 18-parsec route that smugglers would use to evade the Empire when transporting spice from the planet of Kessel. Plus, they provided answers to questions fans had been asking for years, not to mention explaining how Han Solo made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. That move angered lots of fans because those stories had, in many ways, wonderfully expanded the Star Wars universe. But, when the Mouse House came knocking, all of those stories were removed from canon and relabeled under Legends. Long before The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm, the Expanded Universe - a collection of novels, comics, video games, and various other published stories - made up the bulk of the Star Wars saga, and they were all considered canon. Of course, these are mere theories, and Lucasfilm even had some of their own in Legends. One of the wildest theories is that Han Solo and Chewbacca are actually time travelers, which is owed to the idea that, since they skirted the edge of the Maw in the Kessel Run, they were able to travel through time to make the Kessel Run via a shorter distance. A common belief is that Captain Solo piloted through black holes to shorten the distance, but that was never confirmed nor alluded to in the movies. While many fans believed George Lucas simply made an error in the script, other fans have gone to great lengths to explain the parsec's use. So, why would Han Solo use that term as proof of how fast his spaceship is? It's not like someone would claim they were the fastest runner because they ran a mile in less than 2,000 feet. After all, a parsec is a measurement of length - equal to approximately 19 trillion miles (or 3.26 light years) in both real-life and Star Wars canon - not time. But even with the fight and running half of it on foot, I still made it with less than a minute to go, just under the wire.Right from the start, Han Solo always made it a habit of introducing the Millennium Falcon as the ship that " made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs," but that statement has drawn a considerable amount of confusion over time. I went off the road to make the distance shorter after I lost my mount-although I'm not sure if that saved time, something snagged me and running away didn't work, I ended up having to fight. ![]() I still managed to make it back on time, on foot. ![]() I went into the quest without knowing anything about it, but I'd just been running all over and I happened to know where the leaders were, so I had no trouble, even though I accidentally dismounted in Odesyus Landing (I must have hit a spell or something by accident). Just make sure you know were to find the people before you start. Oh, and NeverNexus is right, since you're mounted you need to basically trample the people you're supposed to talk to be close enough. Blizzard isn't saying this quest is anything like the Kessel Run in Star Wars, they're just using the name as a little nod to a great work of sci fi.Īs for the quest, the time limit isn't a problem, the trick is that they don't use question marks to tell you were to go. And this same kind of homage is found in many TV shows, movies and games. Comment by AllakhazamI like the little tributes to various fictional works you find throughout World of Warcraft, Star Wars is by no means the only one. ![]() The starter set with the plastic handled version of the quip is priced at $25. You can save $5 if you prepay $55 up front for that first year. That works out to $60 for the first year. The aluminum handled quip toothbrush starter set without the toothpaste costs $45 and then you’ll be billed $5 every three months to receive a replacement head. That’s much less than what you will pay for the quip toothbrush and one year of brush head refills. You can go to Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, or one of many other stores and buy a manual toothbrush (with a small head and soft bristles – because that’s the best for your teeth and gums) in a pack of 4 toothbrushes for only $5 or so. But I do think the quip helped me brush longer than a manual toothbrush? Yes, the 30 seconds per quadrant pulsing feature really does help you do a more thorough job of cleaning your teeth and gums.īut here’s the thing. Final thoughtsĭo I think that the quip toothbrush cleaned my teeth better than a manual toothbrush? No, not really. I normally use Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste and found the quip toothpaste to have more grit than what I’m used to but the taste of the paste was just fine and it cleaned my teeth fine as well. I was also sent a tube of quip mint toothpaste. One thing I noticed about the quip’s aluminum handle is that it gets slippery after toothpaste and spit start running down your hand. After 2 minutes, the brush pulses twice and stops vibrating to let you know that the brushing session has ended. The vibration sensation might cause people to think that they can just hold the bristles against their teeth to clean them without actually moving the brush back and forth across their teeth and gums.Įven though the brush bristles don’t move, the vibration feature is useful because the toothbrush pulses every 30 seconds to prompt you to move to the next quadrant of your mouth. ![]() Once both packages are downloaded, install the Windows Virtual PC package first. Once selected, you can download both the Windows Virtual PC package and the XP Mode package: Near the bottom of the page, you’ll find a selector for your host OS type (32 or 64 bit) and your language. The first step is to get Windows Virtual PC and the XP Mode installers. I use this to protect my main machine from the myriad beta and CTP’s I am running at the moment. The startup time is a bit slower than a desktop application, but this way you can work on your normal machine with virtualized applications that are separate from your operation system. it is running the virtual machine and remoting the application to the host. Notice the window chrome is from the Windows XP virtual machine. ![]() For example I can launch Firefox like a desktop application: The registry and drives are virtualized so when you save options/files they are saved on the host PC. ![]() The real trick is that if you install an application inside of a Virtual Machine (running XP, Vista or Win 7), you can launch it in the host OS like a normal application. Now I know you think you’ve been using this, but this (another unfortunate named product) is a repackaged Virtual PC that is very integrated into the OS. The real star of the show is “Windows Virtual PC”. I understand what Microsoft is trying to do and lessen the fear of people who have apps that work on XP but maybe not as well on Windows 7, but XP Mode is something entirely different. So I figured it was up to me to write a blog explaining it and why its so awesome.įirst of all, the term “XP Mode” is entirely the wrong name. I was chatting with Chris Sells today and I tried to explain what and how the XP Mode stuff worked and why I loved it so much, but to no avail. Now that Windows 7 has gone RTM (and I am anxiously awaiting it to appear on MSDN downloads), I am getting excited about the new operating system. |
